Homeless kitten’s heartwarming physical transformation will warm your heart

A TRAGIC kitten was living a terrible life abandoned on the busy streets of Istanbul, Turkey, with pedestrians ignoring her because of her unpleasant looks.

This poor kitten. What a life she had. Lost and almost certain to die young. How superb is the person who saved her. I have immense admiration for her saviour. To choose a deformed and, yes, ugly cat and cherish her and see that she was cared for and treated by a vet is truly heart warming. A saintly act, one could say.

And the person who did this good dead and who has a golden heart: a seven year old girl.

There are probably a lot of street cats in Istanbul. This female was just another. One to be ignored. I don’t think we know the girl’s name. She and her father took the cat to a vet. The vet diagnosed severe facial deformities. A large part of her mouth was missing. Her left ear was also missing. And a bad infestation of mites which caused bald patches in her fur and damaged her skin.

A lot of tender loving care went into rehabilitating this precious, vulnerable and fragile street cat. But it transformed her. Her life was transformed in another way as well because she is living with the girl who saved her.

I don’t think you’ll get a better cat rescue story. For me the clincher is the fact that the girl went to this ugly and deformed cat and loved her. He love was expressed in tender care.

The cat has been named Gulumser which means “smiles”. Very apt.

  • The cat became beautiful when she was loved. Love can transform and make anything or anyone beautiful.

  • A beautiful Swan indeed! It's hard to believe that both pictures are of the same cat. True Heroes!

  • Having visited Istanbul and having seen the numerous street cats definitely find this story not very much beyond the ordinary. In Istanbul cats are revered and never ever persecuted.Astonishing is the fact that a young 7 year old girl rescued this heinous looking deformed cat is something out of the ordinary. The cat "Gulumser" is definitely one of the luckiest street cats of Istanbul.

  • I remember seeing this story a few months ago, and was struck at how much difference we can make in one life, if we only stop long enough to allow our heart to open, to care enough to act.

If we each did this, if only for one life, our world would be a better place.
