How can cats eat with a cone on?

Domestic cats can eat with a cone on (Elizabethan collar) if the food and water bowls are raised off the floor by about 5 inches. This allows the cone to go either side and underneath the bowls provided the bowl is on a shelf as illustrated in the photographs, which are from the “instructables living” website. Perhaps the key feature is that it is a shelf which allows the part of the comb which is underneath the cat’s chin to pass under the food bowl as stated. It doesn’t have to be a custom-built stand like this. You could probably do it with half a dozen books and the top book would be about four times larger than the ones below it or an unwanted shelf from a kitchen cupboard. That would have the same effect but it would be less stable but there are alternatives. You just have to use your imagination as there are many possibilities. The photograph is reproduced here under a creative commons licence – thanks.
