Lirik has two cats, Nayna and Nomu, based on my visit to his Twitter account (and Reddit). They both appear to be purebred Scottish Folds. One is all-white while the other is grey-and-white. I can’t match the names to the cats. He appears to live in an apartment in Massachusetts USA and it seems that his cats are full-time indoor cats although that’s a guess. I’m guessing again but I think the grey-and-white cat is polydactyl – has more than the usual number of toes on his forepaws – because he has ‘thumbs’.
Here is a photo of Lirik followed by his cats:
He may have got the idea of adopting Scottish Fold cats from Taylor Swift because she achieved a lot of publicity with her cats one of which I recall is a Scottish Fold.
Does that mean that Scottish Fold cats are popular with celebrities? It probably does to a certain extent because this cat breed has an unusual appearance. It is a standout appearance and therefore may appeal to celebrities. There are certain inherent health issues with this breed, however. And there are calls for the breed to be banned. Celebrities adopting these cats works against that goal.
As for Lirik himself, I had never heard of him before writing this article. That is not to say that he is not well known, it just means that he inhabits a different world to mine.
Lirik, I’m told, is a “partnered livestreamer on Twitch”. I believe that he plays online games competing with others which is very popular these days. He started streaming in 2011 on Twitch with World Of Warcraft. He then started streaming on a regular basis from March 2012 with DayZ.
He averages 20,000 to 40,000 viewers per stream and as at October 2017 he has around 1.8 million followers. Well done to him. He is obviously talented.
I’ve never heard of Lirik either, but he has beautiful cats.
