This is how to keep your cat cool in super hot weather. Buy a water melon. Place it in the fridge. Take it out of the fridge and your cat will do the rest….
Sorry if you were looking for a genuine way to cool your cat. That said, this cat is cooling himself but how many cats like to do this? Was he placed there? I don’t think so. And how does the water melon stay still when it is round and likely to roll off the kitchen counter at any minute? I guess it did roll off the counter. It is just that the photographer captured the picture beforehand.
Some Real Suggestions
THERE IS A NICE COMMENT TOO – PLEASE SCROLL DOWN WHEN YOU HAVE READ THE PAGE.
The weather in Britain is superhot at the moment. So I have the problem of keeping my cat cool but he does it himself. He has stopped going on my lap for long periods, for instance. Cats will seek out cool places in the home. My cat finds the coolest room in the home and rests their during the daytime. At night, when it is cooler, he goes out hunting, wandering and so on.
The only way you can keep your cat cool over a large area is to keep your home cool unless you rig up some fancy space which is cooled down like a fridge in which your cat can place himself. They say that you should keep your cat inside during very hot weather. I would agree with that if your cat is all-white because cats with white coats are more prone to get sunburnt ears which can become cancerous. Otherwise I think the advice is not particularly helpful. Cats can find cool places outside just as well as they can find cool places inside the home. And it presupposes that your home is cooler than somewhere outside which it might not be.
Damp Towel
I think that this is a good idea. If you have a towel which you have used and which smells of you you can make it damp by perhaps spraying water on it or simply using it after a shower and then placing it on the floor or a bed in your home. Your cat is likely to rest on it because she will like the smell as your scent is contained within it. It will be pleasing for your cat on 2 fronts (1) scent exchange. In lying on it her scent is merged with yours in the towel which will make her feel happy and (2) it should cool her down slightly. Also is worth mentioning that the water in the towels will evaporate which cools the air around her under the science of the latent heat of evaporation (the same science behind how sweating cools down humans).
Fans
To keep the house cool you may have to install air-conditioning which is expensive and it is also expensive to run. You may be able to keep your cat cool by placing a fan in front of him or her. This may work if your cat is not disturbed by it. Indeed, your cat may seek out the fan. It all depends upon the individual cat’s character.
Cool Bag
What about a cool bag? If you have one in the home you might prepare it in the usual way and then leave it on the floor to see whether your cat jumps into it! You might leave it on its side so he or she can walk into it. She might lie down beside it. I don’t know but the thought just came to me. Cool bags are for keeping food cool on picnics.
Test comment because they are not working properly.
1) Wet a hand towel, ring it out and put it in the freezer for ~10 minutes. Spread it on Kitty’s favorite spot and cover with another towel. Introduce Kitty to it.
2) if Kitty likes the fan, put a small bowl of ice in front of it. Let the fan blow over the ice. Or take the towel from above, clip it to a coat hanger and suspend in front of the fan.
3) Provide cool, fresh water, possibly a pet fountain, at all times.
