I call them kittens because they act like them still but they are both 10 months old now! There's Charlie, male, who is the mackerel Tabby (I think, but if you think his colouring is different I would love to know!) and Pea, female who again I 'think' is blue tabby with white (!?)

I got them as strays after my old kitten, Jimy, cruelly got snatched away from me at 7 months old when he contracted Peritonitis. I only meant to take Pea home with me but then the owner of their location told me there was another who he may have to shoot as he had broken his leg!!

I instantly took him too. They were adorable, as are all kittens, despite Peas constant hissing and spitting for the first couple of days! Charlie was subdued and lovely. The vet found the leg wasn't broken but the nerves were badly damaged and he would probably have to have it amputated (as had been suspected) but she told us to give him another week just in case.

So I took him home and made a splint out of cardboard and vetwra and after 3 days he was starting to put weight on it instead of dragging it! I was absolutely delighted. I rang the vet and told her the good news and he improved more and more. Today his leg seems in perfect health. Anyways, I have attached some pics when they were about 5 months old I think, maybe 6. They are my babies! šŸ˜€

Original cats

Hi Amie. They look great - no wonder you had to take them both.

Looking at them makes me think that this type is probably the original British domestic cat - from before British Shorthair was created by adding a little Persian to it's mix. Body shape and face of these two kittens looks much more like EuropƩ (European Shorthair), which was created mainly from Scandinavian mixed breeds. I don't know whether the vikings may have looted some cats from Britain or whether it was the other way round. At any rate this seems to be common type of moggie in Northern Europe.

Sorry for the digression. Yes, you are indeed lucky having found two very fine kittens, and they too are lucky for having been allowed to stay together in a good home. šŸ™‚

Hi Amie, I think that you are spot on with your description of coat types.

Great picture too and a really nice story, to save Charlie and nurse him to health.

All rounded off with lashings of love...Thanks for coming by and sharing.
