IN MANY LANGUAGES WE SAY NO TO DECLAWING

by Ruth
(England)

Declawing is banned or considered extremely inhumane and only performed under extreme circumstances in 38 countries of the world.

It’s totally banned in all the countries in the EU and in the countries where it is considered extremely inhumane, such as in Australia, it is looked upon with shock and horror. Just like in the UK before it was made illegal here, the vets there will not do it.

The cities in California which have banned it too are a wonderful example to the rest of the USA and I hope many more states and cities will follow the humanity of the people who brought the bans about.

Each and every cat in this world feels the same pain and fear and should not have to suffer this premeditated cruel and unnecessary surgery.
Declawing which is banned as animal abuse in so many countries and cities should be banned worldwide.

by: Ruth

Hi Jim, just going by what comes up on the internet, that some countries have made it illegal and some consider it extremely inhumane and only perform it under extreme circumstances.

I suppose we would have to contact the government of every country to verify it in writing.

Roll on the day it’s illegal worldwide.

Feb 24, 2012 Can we verify countries? NEW
by: Jim

We at the Paw Project are trying to verify anti-declaw laws in as many countries as possible. Do you have links, citations, etc?

Jul 25, 2011 The TRUE Heroes
by: Annie Bruce

Awesome job Ruth! Thanks! I really love my country EXCEPT for the fact our vets declaw. Unfortunately declawing make us look like the idiots we ARE for doing it. You have to wonder why the AVMA/vets declaw cats when declawing:

• ENDANGERS cats, humans AND sofas

• lowers the standard of cat health care available to ALL American cats

• encourages depraved veterinarian practice and cat abuse

• reeks havoc on communities stuck with peeing, biting declaws that no one wants. (AVMA STILL claims to ‘save’ cats/homes/sofas by declawing them!)

• implies that most cats are stupid and worthless. (Declawing insinuates that cat care should cost LESS than one sofa. Plus the AVMA SAYS that declaws are ‘not trainable’)

• defies logic, reason, commonsense, ethics and compassion.

Declawing is already against our laws. Vets endanger humans, cats and property by failing to provide full disclosure and informed consent regarding declawing dangerous side effects. Our government has failed to take action. And the AVMA has not cared on bit about saving the millions of declaws that end up in alleys and shelters – after peeing all over the house! IMO, the AVMA is just a bunch of greedy, heartless cowards willing to risk our cats, our homes and our children by not providing full disclosure that REAL ‘doctors’ are legally required to do. Our ‘heroes’ are NOT these veterinarians who have disillusioned themselves (and others) into thinking they actually ‘save cats’. America’s true heroes are you, Michael, our comrades in the UK and other parts of the world …who help end this madness… this animal abuse…this shame.

I am 100% confident that U.S. cats are just as smart as German ones but American cat-owners are kept in the dark… for 40+ years we’ve been outright lied to. It brings comfort to know others recognize that our U.S. government lacks power/organization over veterinarians who clearly lack education; lack ethical standards and conduct; lack regulation; and lack the ability to comprehend the consequences of their OWN actions—in other words, it sure does appear that most U.S. veterinarians are either crazy, or lack consciousness and/or brains. In this country their conduct is ALREADY illegal however no government agency to date will enforce the same laws on them that already govern the rest of us. Sucks. Please know that NOT all Americans are AS arrogant, foolish and greedy as our animal-“doctors” appear to be. Someday declawing will end.

That is one of the best posters I have even seen.

Intricately designed yet striking in its

simplicity as if it took no effort(which I don’t for one moment believe)

Dec 29, 2010 Cruelty is the same in any language
by: Leah (England)

Ruth what a brilliant article! I sometimes don’t know how you do it but then of course I remember that your inspiration comes from the suffering of all those defenceless cats and kittens.

Eddie I agree it ought to be made into banners! How could anyone ignore it!

America is supposed to be a 1st world country but how can that be when they are so behind on basic animal welfare issues?

Dec 28, 2010 Best Yet!!!
by: Kathleen

Ruth, this is fantastic. I actually think this may be your best poster yet; it’s elegant in its simplicity, and yet makes a very powerful statement. I think the fact that so many other countries have condemned declawing is one of the most important things for us to focus on, and one of the biggest facts that the American public generally is unaware of.

Dec 28, 2010 No Matter What Language! RIGHT ON!!
by: Jo Singer

Ruth,

Another excellent post! It is just wonderful read no matter what language you presented … they all mean. CATS NEED THEIR CLAWS!!! Don’t Declaw.

It sickens me that the United States is so backward in this area. How it continues to be a common procedure is totally incomprehensible.

Wish the AVMA spoke the languages of love.

Happy Mew Year. What a miracle it would be if 2011 came up compassionate in the USA.

Dec 28, 2010 Thank you
by: Kathryn

Thank you Ruth for your never ending effort to inform everyone about declawing and how wrong it is.

I wish I was good at writing but all I can do is back you up with my comments until the day we win the battle against the animal abusers who get paid by people to legally hurt their cats.

Dec 28, 2010 Just WOW
by: Rose

Your poster is striking in its simplicity.

What can I say but just WOW,what a lot of work has gone into that and how very effective it is.

The person who asked for a list sure has got one now.

Dec 28, 2010 YES WE DO
by: CJ

Yes we do,in any language

WE SAY NO TO DECLAWING

because it’s cruel and needless.

I take my hat off to you Ruth, translating to all those languages must have took some doing.

My brain can never fathom out how it’s not considered cruel in the USA when it is in all those other countries.

Dec 28, 2010 It doesn’t matter how you say it, but say NO!
by: Barbara

The inhabitants of 38 countries of the world and 8 cities in the US must add up to millions – billions – trillions of people who have got it right, who realise that declawing cats is bad, cruel, inhumane, unnecessary and downright wrong. So what gives the rest of the USA and Canada the idea that amputating the finger ends of cats in their power is acceptable? As long as I live, and try as I might, I don’t think I’ll ever understand the mentality of anyone, especially of those who have spent years in training to help animals medically, who condones declawing.

Thanks for another great article and poster Ruth, I know that you spent a lot of time finding those translations at a time when many other people were “living off the hog” and celebrating Christmas. You are one of the few (along with the POC troops) who realise that suffering never takes a break.

Dec 28, 2010 Say no to declawing!
by: Maggie

Great poster, Ruth! All those languages and all those countries have said no to declawing. And it’s about time that the USA and Canada listen to and understand what is being said, and say no to declawing themselves!
