Although I know a lot about the inherited diseases of the cat breeds including the Persian cat, I was unaware before preparing this Infographic that the Persian cat is predisposed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Further research is needed on this disease with respect to the Persian cat because my research did not shed any light on whether the Peke-face is more predisposed to the disease than the Doll-face Persian. It would appear to be an inherited disease across both variations of this popular breed.
HCM in by Michael BroadSadly, the Persian cat is predisposed to 14 inherited diseases nearly all the which affect the extreme bred, Peke-face version. If you click on the link below you can see some more infographics on some more inherited health problems affecting this cat breed.

These infographics are meant to be very quick and easy reads for people on the go, for those people who are thinking about adopting a Persian cat. It’s important that adopters are fully aware of the health issues concerning the flat-face Persian a.k.a. Peke-face Persian.
It is with sadness, actually, that I create these infographics because no purebred cat should be so vulnerable to inheriting so many diseases before they are born. The future of each individual Persian cat is not bright in terms of their health and health obviously impinges upon welfare and general contentment.
It also impinges upon the maintenance costs of a domestic cat. The Persian is probably one of those purebred cats that requires pet health insurance. There are other breeds you could add to the list such as the Maine Coon and Bengal. These are just two examples. Pet health insurance is expensive and should be factored in before adopting a Persian cat. In fact the entire cost of excellent cat caregiving should be budgeted fully before adopting so there are no surprises. The costs surprise many.
