International Pictures of Cats
My thanks to Dorothy Wandruff – dw – for telling me about these pictures of cats. There is one amongst this group that encouraged me to create the title that I did. Also dw made the point. This is the picture:

South American child and cat. DW says this child is from one of the South American countries. I wish we could hear about the domestic cat from these countries. The cat is a red (ginger) and white tabby.
It must be a chilly climate (is that snow in the background?) and the setting might, therefore, be the Andes mountain range and the country could be Chile as that country has the Andes running through part of it. It is a totally charming picture of a cat and child. It is very natural and I love naturalness. I wonder if this is normal for a child or adult; to carry a domestic cat around like this. I would be pretty certain that domestic cats in South America are often semi-domestic according Western culture.
If it is the Andes, they are part of the area of distribution of a small wild cat species, the Andean Mountain cat. This is an endangered and rather tame wild cat that looks like a domestic cat.
Here is a selection of some more international pictures of cats, which includes a thumbnail of the picture above. If you click on them you’ll see the picture in large format.
- Cat on Mountain Top. Great life it seems for a domestic cat.
- Cat in a war zone. One word: sadness. There are a lot of cats suffering right now in Syria (August 2012). No one writes about the suffering of the companion animals when people are at war.
- Farm Cat? Looks like high altitude again. Clear sky etc. and it looks like a farm. Could this be a farm cat lazing away the afternoon after doing a bit of successful mousing for the farmer?
- Cat on rail track. Same cat as the other? Not sure. Hope he or she is safe.
- Cat on railway track. Do cats use railway track to get about more easily? I think they do. This cat has found the most comfortable and most direct route to somewhere.
- DW called this picture “Dreamy Eyed Cat” and she is spot on.
- South American child and cat. Charming. DW says this child is from one of the South American countries. I wish we could hear about the domestic cat from these countries.
This is a particularly nice collection with a mountain and international theme. The picture of the soldier feeding the kitten is very touching and sad.
A totally overlooked aspect of the Middle Eastern wars over the past 15 years or so is the suffering that they have caused to companion animals. Some of the American troops have in the past rescued cats and dogs and on occasion had them shipped home. This is fantastically dedicated work.
I’d like people to remember the loss of animals as well as people in these wars. And the fact that we started them. This is human war. The animals are innocent victims as usual.
Note: I have decided that the pictures are in the public domain but I do not have the names of the authors. If you are the author and/or If I am incorrect please tell me and I will take immediate steps to rectify the problem. Thank you.
