One feline behaviour expert, Dr Ellis, believes that open plan living is bad for cats because it precludes spaces where cats can hide. I disagree with this because even in open plan accommodation a cat owner can still provide many places for a cat to hide. It is not too difficult to do that. The reason why cats like to hide is because sometimes they may be bullied or feel anxious for one reason or another and hiding helps to alleviate that anxiety. The answer is for the cat owner to find the cause of the anxiety and eliminate it. Under those circumstances there is no need for the cat to hide in any case.
