For me, “responsible breeder” is an oxymoron because breeders of cats and dogs cannot be said to be responsible while there are unwanted, healthy rescue cats and dogs being killed at cat shelters under the euphemism “euthanasia”. This is because potential adopters of rescue cats and dogs are drawn away to buying a purebred cat or dog thereby jeopardising the life of a rescue animal. Breeders facilitate this and therefore they are not acting responsibly.
