I've found meaning and joy in caring for a colony of homeless cats for the past 15 years. Most of them are now fixed, but occasionally a newcomer wanders in who needs to be taken care of.

I've written a book about my experiences, "They Had Me at Meow: Tails of Love from the Homeless Cats of Buster Hollow" which won the 2009 Muse Medallion Award from the International Cat Writers' Association.

I wrote my book as a loving tribute to these cats as well as to increase awareness about them. The more educated people become, the more likely they are to participate in solving the problem of homeless cats.

Cheers,

Rosie

Jun 18, 2010 Feral Cats
by: Joanne

We at Mid Cheshire Animal Welfare in Cheshire UK care soley for feral colonies as we don't think enough is done to help feral cats. There are so many rescues who take in domestic cats and kittens we decided it was time to consentrate on just the ferals. We have over 100 cats under our care, they are all neutered, flea treated and wormed, we then put them back on their homeland and we feed everyday and keep our eyes open for any new faces appearing. We are only a very small charity. We have just completed another colony of over 20 cats who are now under our wing.
It sickens me when people like environmental services want to come and un-necessarily slaughter these beautiful little things. Luckily they will not touch them now - they have been warned! and at the end of the day the plight of these poor little things are all down to mankind!
Once they are being looked after properly they are no trouble at all!

Hi Toastie, I am admin. For a long time I have linked back to the original photo or to the photographer's profile. I always provide full credits too because I appreciate the photographer's license to use the photograph. The link is just below the adverts.

Thanks for licensing your photos under creative commons.

Mar 20, 2010 Rosie's book "They had me at Meow"
by: Dorothy

Rosie, My book arrived and I can't put it down. I highly recommend this book to all cat lovers of the world.
It is one thing to be pushing against the foolish and wrong-thinking de-clawing of our feline friends, which I think it is an important subject.
But to sit and read story after story about the love of cats and their caretakers is a relief, a pleasure and a fabulous education. This is very moving book. The stories will remind you of many that we read here at POC. It is hard to put the book down. Thank you for writing it Rosie, and I'll comment more when I'm finished.

It is a worthwhile read. I think I'll go feed Mr. Yellow Cat, my sole feral.

I love what you are doing with homeless cats, and I am flattered that you chose my picture for this page. I appreciate you attributed the photo to me, but I was wondering if you or your admin could link the photo to its Flickr page. Thanks!

Mar 18, 2010 Thanks for your kind comments!
by: Rosie Sorenson

Dear kind readers,

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment about my post and my book. I am using the book to increase understanding and compassion for these beautiful, funny spirits. They have allowed me into their world and given me a new life. Because of my love for them and their love for me, I have become a published author - who knew?

I have TONS of photos that I'm happy to share. I'll post some more on my site and you can also see some of the really cute/funny ones on some products I've created at: www.zazzle.com/theyhadmeatmeow.

Thanks so much for the warm reception. That's all writers ever want, really, is for people to read what we've written and to find kindred spirits as a result.

Blessings from the Homeless Cats of Buster Hollow and Rosie

I am so glad to know about your book. I'm getting it immediately. Congratulations on publishing.

It confirms my belief that there are more people who love cats than not. I hope we get to see pictures of some of your brood.
