Furby the Fantastic - photos by Joyce Sammons
It’s Furby again. Right now mama is a little upset with me because she’s been writing again and I just stepped on the keyboard and erased everything. I’ve tried to tell her I’m an accident waiting to happen. Besides, I want to tell this story. She doesn’t always do it right. I've learned a lot this week.
Mama just explained to me that I may look like a baby Turkish Angora but I’m really a feral cat. She told me it’s nothing to be ashamed of because there are millions of kitties like me. There are even people who rescue ferals and neuter them and return them to the wild. I was so upset until she explained I will have to be neutered (what does that mean? She won’t tell me) but I’m in my forever home. Mama will always keep me and love me. She said I’m not like most of the ferals because I’m really sweet and love everybody and not afraid of ANYTHING!
I just wanted to tell everyone that yesterday was my best day ever. My best friend Barbara drove over 100 miles to see me and bring me a bag of soup. She loves me and knows how to do the ear thing. I could lay in her lap forever. Or until I find something better to do. Mama fixed me a bowl of soup after Barbara left. She sat down on the couch and spooned up the vegetables and blew on them until they were cool enough for me to eat. I LOVE vegetables. I think mama got confused because she kept forgetting to feed me. She was eating MY soup. I didn’t want to look like a piggy and stick my head in the bowl so I pawed at the spoon to remind her. So yesterday I learned about soup.
I also learned the most important thing of all yesterday. After I ate my soup I curled up in mama’s lap for my afternoon nap. I was feeling all warm and loved and I was really enjoying my catnap when-mama snatched me up like when I was a sick kitten. It scared me. I didn’t know if I was sick again or if I’d done something wrong. Mama put my belly against her ear. Then she put me down and picked me back up and did it again. Laura was sitting at the other end of the couch and mama handed me to her. I must be in real trouble if it takes both of them to listen to my belly.
Then mama laughed and Laura laughed and I heard that word I’ve been waiting to hear since the day I got here. Who knew it would be this easy. I can do this again. I CAN PURR! YEA! I CAN PURR!
This is another tidbit of exotic Americana; the world of private zoos, exotic cats and…
This is an interesting and perhaps a landmark legal case regarding writing posts on Facebook…
