“Jumping Cats” – Photographs by Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek

Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek is a top-flight professional photographer. His clients include Apple Inc., Mercedes-Benz, Times Magazine, Bloomberg and other blue-chip companies. His photographs have been published in several independent publications and he has exhibited throughout Europe, USA and Asia.

Daniel has worked at Magnum photos. This is a very famous photo agency with a massive pedigree as many of its members were and are admired photographers. Cartier-Bresson, with Robert Capa, David Seymour, William Vandivert and George Rodger founded Magnum Photos in 1947. Cartier-Bresson is revered by millions of photographers. Daniel works and lives in Berlin and Vienna.

Daniel decided to photograph cats! Great. His take on the subject matter is interesting and it caught my eye. He calls this series of photographs “Jumping Cats”. Casting my eye over the photographs, which I like a lot by the way, it is apparent that these are not truly jumping cats. They are more like flying cats! I’m sure that they were very cooperative. I’m going to speculate hugely and say that he may have been inspired by the well-known photograph by Philippe Halsman entitled: Dali Atomicus. I wrote a page on that seven years ago.

Here are Daniel’s Jumping Cat photos in a gallery published with his permission. Please click on them to see them in a slightly larger format. Please respect Daniel’s copyright. Please don’t upload them to Pinterest or download them to your computer (for use elsewhere) without asking him first. Click here to see his website.

These photographs have been exhibited at: De School, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2017 and at Collectors Agenda, Vienna, Austria, 2016.
