Just euthanize him. I don’t want him any more

This is the sweet story of a ginger tabby-and-white male rescue cat. It is not an entirely untypical cat rescue story. It seems that a woman walked into her veterinarian’s clinic with a cat that she had lived with since he was a little kitten. She told the veterinarian:

“Just euthanize him. I don’t want him any more.”

The cat’s name is Sully. He is healthy. He was healthy when the woman brought him into the veterinarian’s clinic. She took him in to have him killed as far as I can tell. Sully is neutered, he is FeLV and FIV negative. He is house trained and he is current on his vaccinations. He is handsome. He is a perfect cat companion but the woman wanted rid of him. Her veterinarian had a different plan and did not comply with the woman’s request, thankfully.

It appears that the vet contacted Michigan Cat Rescue who took him in for rehoming. On January 24 they announced on Facebook that an adoption was pending with an update to follow.

Clearly somebody had read their post on Facebook in which they explained how good a cat companion he would be and that he was looking for true love by which they meant a person who could look after him properly for the rest of his life unlike the his first guardian who proved not to be a guardian at all.

That person came along and her name is Nikki. You can see her in the photograph. You can see Sully touching noses with Nikki which is a very good start. It also tells us Sully is confident with a pleasant character.

Apparently half a million people have seen the story which begs the question why I missed it! Michigan Cat Rescue rightly state that the second chapter in his life begins on January 26, the date when he was adopted for the second time.

Obviously this is a success story and I think in this instance we can praise Facebook for being such an effective vehicle for promoting and advertising rescue cats looking for a new home.

Christa Lee sums it up: This literally brought tears of happiness to my eyes!!!!! So HAPPY for this sweet boy!!!!! ❤❤❤❤ Well done Michigan Cat Rescue!!!!!!

  1. As so many of your stories, this reminds me of a similar experience. At a Veterinary Emergency Hospital I saw a lady bring her dog in and said the same thing. She was most ugly about it, but had no good reason for demanding that her dog companion be killed. Her grown daughter was with her trying to talk her out of it, but she didn’t care. I was horrified, and when they left I asked the vet if I could save the dog TO WHICH HE SAID NO, and the only reason he said was that they don’t do adoptions. Again, horrified… I am SO glad this handsome cat found a good home AND that the vet did the right thing.

    • I don’t understand why the vet didn’t just relinquish the dog to a rescue whereby you could’ve adopted the dog. I assume he did kill the dog? He should be reported to the proper authorities. That in and of itself is animal cruelty IMHO. I’d bet the general public would be in an uproar if they were made aware of that situation.

  2. So happy for Sully to find a true forever guardian and companion. How can a person just throw away an animal soul, especially after raising one from kittenhood? So many people have hearts of stone.

    • That’s because this ‘alleged’ person is soulless and should be herself thrown out. Heartless jerk in my mind. Thanks to Nikki for giving Sully the loving home he so richly deserves and loads of thanks to the Michigan Cat Rescue! Bubbly all around!
