This is our new British Shorthair kitten Merlin.
He likes to wake his new mother up by sucking on her earlobe.
To date no milk has been found but the search continues!

Awwwww…amazing. It shows without doubt that our cat companions see us as (humans) as a mother cat and we actually keep them in perpetual kittenhood.
This is because we feed and care for them (if we are good caretakers).
On that basis; when will Merlin stop? When he realises that no milk is forthcoming? Or will he stop at all. He might like it enough even if there is no milk. It is a comfort zone thing like a child sucking on a thumb. Only he may never grow up….:).
There is one reason for this behavior which I don’t think is correct in this instance. Some cats suck wool. The reason is said to be because of being weaned too early. Suckling on an ear lobe is similar behavior but the reason is the same one that leads to a cat kneading our legs when on our lap – they see us as mother cats and they remain in a form of kittenhood.
