Lawyer for Kristen Lindsey defends his client in letter to Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners

The attorney, Brian W. Bishop, is representing Kristen Lindsey in her defense against the investigation by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (TBVME) to sanction Dr Lindsey for her alleged killing of a domestic cat (claimed to be feral) with a bow and arrow at close range. Most of us have heard about this notorious case. If not, please click this.

Mr Bishop must also be representing and defending Kristen Lindsey generally. I believe Brian W Bishop has his own law firm in Austin Texas (900 West Avenue).

Update at 1st June 2015: his website is currently down probably as a consequence of acting for Kristen Lindsey. A visitor to PoC, kindly provided his details in a comment.

A colleague of mine has kindly sent me a copy of a leaked letter that Mr Bishop wrote to the TBVME. It is reproduced below and I have typed it out as the image is small and hard to read.

Dear Ms Hudson,

This firm represents Dr. Lindsey DVM in the referenced complaint.

Dr. Lindsey denies that she engaged in any violation of Board Rule 573.4. Among other things, neither the act of posting of a photograph, nor this alleged act of killing of a ferel [sic] cat on Dr. Lindsey’s residential property were “connected to the practice of veterinary medicine’ or otherwise a criminal activity.

Please cease and desist from any further attempts to contact Dr. Lindsey or her family. Also as you are aware, TBVME complaints are confidential per Texas Occ. Code § 801.207 – the TBVME has, however, been discussing the complaint and related matters with third parties (including Dr. Ron Stried DVM) in flagrant disregard of Dr. Lindsey’s right to privacy and confidentiality – these disclosures must stop immediately.

Yours Very truly

Brian W. Bishop

My comment (please add your below): firstly I apologise for adding to Dr Lindsey’s lack of privacy in this matter but feel it needs to be aired due to public interest.

The key statement, I believe, is that the lawyer claims that Lindsey’s alleged killing of Tiger, the ginger tabby, is unconnected with the practice of veterinary medicine.

I strongly disagree with this. It has to be closely connected to the work of a vet because the attitude and behavior of a vet outside of her/his workplace is critical to (a) the standing of the veterinary profession generally in the USA and further afield and (b) the way a vet conducts herself at her workplace.

The work of even the most highly skilled veterinarian will be compromised if the vet in question has a poor attitude towards animal welfare. Compassion is a key characteristic of the good veterinarian. You could argue that it is essential.

Judging by the behavior of Dr Lindsey she has a poor and unsuitable attitude towards the welfare of animals. There was not an ounce of compassion in her alleged close range shooting of her neighbor’s cat.

Whether what she allegedly did is criminal or not is down to a court to decide. However, the broad opinion on the internet, where this notorious example of cat cruelty has been widely discussed, is that she committed a crime and should be punished accordingly.

I am surprised that Mr Bishop is demanding that the TBVME should stop contacting people other than Lindsey because how else can they investigate the matter?

    • Thank you for commenting, Susan. All decent people would agree with you. You may be aware that this matter is still going through the system. Her licence has been revoked but she has appealed that decision and there will a court of arbitration or some other such court which will be much more formal at which it will be decided whether she retains her licence to practice or not. The results of that should be out in the not too distant future.

  2. Parhaos the people who put up the original #Justice For Tiger Facebook Page could be in charge of collecting donations . The intent of the money collected would be used to hire an animal rights attorney to work with the ALDF and to hire a private investigator to try to find out any evidence that could be used to help reopen the animal creulty case against KL.. The people who started the original # Justice For Tiger Facebook Page have been involved in this story since day one . I know it would require a lot of time hard work but something has to be done Kristen Lindsay has to be brought to justice . Perhaps a GoFundMe Site could be started with the goal of hiring an animal right’s attorney ? There would have to be a certified accountant hired to oversee the fund raising part. I have met several people who started a fund raising site for themselves so they could use the proceeds to pay for medical treatment for chronic lyme disease..They needed prolonged aggresive iv antibiotic treatment along with hyberbaric oxygen treatments . One gal was an accountant herself and set up her own fundraising project the other people a husband and wife whose young daughter was paralyzed from the lyme hired a professional fund raising co to set up and oversee the entire fundraising project. I feel like something has to be done to take the bull by the horns we have to unite and go after KL legally. All of us who are outraged by the heinous crime that KL commited against a defenseless domestic cat have to do more than just sit back and type out a few words to express how we are feeling. I don’t know who would want to take on this fight against KL maybe there are people who have a great idea please let them come forward in this forum and express their honest opinion.I think Tiger has become the Poster Cat of Animal Creulty let’s not let Tiger’s horrific death at the hands of a psycho sociopathic young veterinarian go unpunished and ever be in vain let’s all be United together . Wouldn’t it be great if all of us who want justice for Tiger could go to one central site and feel confident that if we followed instructions on what we could do would help bring Kristen Lindsay to justice ? I believe those of us who are decent human beings who are outraged by Kristen Lindsay’s actions have the integrity loyalty and intelligence to put together a plan and follow thru to the end to make sure that KL loses her veterinary licence forever . KL was the Captain of her own ship she brought this all on by herself she needs to be made an example of . One thing is for sure she isn’t very bright and she’s a liar. Who was she trying to impress a redneck boyfriend besides her daddy? I know quite a few bow hunters who hunt in the rural area where I live not a one agrees with what KL did to poor Tiger . Most thought she was seeking attention or approval and condemn her for killing a cat whether it be feral or domestic. The bow hunter’s I know hunt for the venison and never practiced on a domestic or feral animal. You go out and buy yourself a foam target or a block that’s how you practice shooting a bow and arrow. The hunters I know would not drive deer either .I know the bow hunter’s they patronize a restaurant that I work at. I am an animal lover and do not like hunting but I felt it was important to write about the feelings of the bow hunters I know . I believe these guys would all make a substantial donation to a GoFundMe Site if it would help prosecute KL .

  3. I would like to know where Kristen Lindsay, DVM the coward that she is has been hiding ? Now supposedly the feral cat she killed had rabies isn’t that the latest statement coming from her camp ? Being a licensed veterinarian wasn’t KL obligated to bring the body of this suppossed feral cat to the Texas State Board Health Dept so that testing could be done to confirm that the feral was rabid? And wasn’t she obligated to report to the health dept that possibly she may of been scratched and that other pets on her property needed to be quarantined? It’s all a pack of lies brought on by KL and her mother and father to coverup what really happened to poor Tiger her neighbor’s cat. Can’t we the public who want # Justice For Tiger all chip in a couple of dollars to hire our own private investigator to go out and interview potential witnesses and better yet to have a PI go out and find KL and confront her like the PI named Wolf on Investigation Dicovery ID Channel? I think the people who responded to KL’s Facebook Post would be a great start esp the guy that remarked ” Dam Kristen what happens when the pic of her holding Tiger by the arrow goes viral.” I bet a PI could find someone close to the KL camp that might want to spill the beans . Money talks!! And possibly could an animal rights attorney in Tx be hired to help the ALDF get to the bottom of why the grand jury decided not to file animal creulty charges against KL? There are so many kind loving individuals who live abroad like in Japan who worship and love their felines I bet generous donations would be gladly given so that monster Kristen Lindsay receives the punishment due to her as well as her mother. KL must be brought to justice for what she did to Tiger her license must be revoked because she has forsaken the oath she took when she became a veterinarian. We the public who know the difference between right and wrong must keep up the pressure so that KL loses her vet license forever.
