LICKI Brush Kickstarter promises cat bonding without mouth fur

a cat licking device

LICKI Brush Kickstarter promises cat bonding without mouth fur! This will get the cat haters laughing.

I am dubious about this new product. I don’t want to knock it but there is the sense that this is more about searching for new ways to make some money out of the pet market which is pretty healthy. There is no harm in creating new products I just think this looks a bit ridiculous and I have always considered stroking a substitute for licking. Or betters still; I comb my cat with a flea comb around the head, shoulders and under his chin and he adores it and as far as he is concerned I am convinced that he thinks I am licking him.

You don’t need to actually use the mouth to give a cat the impression that you are licking him/her. It is more about the sensation that a cat feels and this can be achieved with the hand or a flea comb or a fine brush et cetera.

Nonetheless I wish the inventor well. This is a crowd funding project. The inventor is looking for $36.5k. Other people have different views it seems as $30k of that target has been pledged. Will the money be donated, however?

As mentioned, I can see cat haters jumping on this as an example of crazy cat owner behavior. They do like to pick up on this sort of thing. I don’t think the product helps the cause of the cat loving community or am I being to sensitive to that?

Do you have any thoughts on this?

  1. Many years ago there was a woman who made and tried to market horse ears that a horse owner could wear to display their emotions to their noble steeds. Although I would argue the inherent dangers of laying your pretend ears back at your horse and their possible reaction. As in I kick the other horse who does that I get the need to communicate. For anyone who wants to buy and use it I see no harm. I’m just not sure it’s going to form a stronger bond that couldn’t be forged in more traditional ways with our pets.

  2. I don’t see the point. If I want to brush my cat, I can use my hands and the brush. If I want to pet my cat, I want to feel its fur on hands. If I want to kiss my cat – not so much, I can touch my cat’s fur with my closed lips and no fur gets into my mouth.

  3. I am like you. I don’t want to “dis” this product but I think we can do everything we need to do with respect to showing our love without using this device.

  4. My preference is stroking, rubbing their heads. That “brush” looks awkward and it seems like the cat would do better with a baby brush. I don’t think my kids would like it-especially all the ferals. They would be afraid to come near me. And I sure don’t want to start over winning their trust!

  5. As long as dog owners are walking around with little baggies of steaming dog poo they have nothing to say.
That said. NO. Hell no. Just Hell no.
