A ban on breeding lions for hunting has been proposed in South Africa on the back of a government-sponsored report. The ban would cover the breeding of lions in captivity for trophy hunting or for tourists to pet. This process is considered inauthentic by the government and they want to provide tourists with a more authentic experience. Hunting of lions will continue. The Lion breeding businesses in South Africa will object strongly to this obviously. The businesses are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. There are also calls to examine the rules on hunting trading and keeping lions, elephants, rhino and leopards.
