Lost Airline Cat George is home after being separated for more than three months from his owner Vanessa Summerfield (See Missing Airline Cat Found Alive).
George, who escaped his carrier at Edmonton International Airport in late September was flown home in a soft carrier provided by Vancouver resident Judith, who aided in the search. He was escorted to Fort McMurray by Westjet Airlines employees Patti Derby and Lori Oshanek, who also assisted in the search.
I've followed this story since November and links to previous stories can be found at the end of this article.
This is such a happy ending considering Vanessa got word in late November that George had been found frozen to death on airport property. Airline employees only used a photograph to identify the cat and didn't check the sex as the cat they found had similar markings. A necropsy showed the cat who froze was female, so the search resumed for missing George.
George, being the miracle cat that he is, turned up just in time for Christmas in nearby Leduc. It's suspected he hitched a ride in an airport employees car. It's really a shame that George can't tell this story!
Vanessa met Patti and Lori at Fort McMurray on Friday afternoon. Lori said "He calmed right down as soon as he saw her. He knew he was home."
Since returning home, George is just being George. He's already peed in his carrier on the way home. He also pooped in a bag belonging to one of his human servants. Way to go George! Mark your territory in your new home!!
And he refused a bath. Can't say that I blame him. He's had a rough couple of months there. George just doesn't understand cat mama's like to bathe their babies. Perhaps some of those moistened towelettes would work better if he's really stinky.
We owe our thanks to a lot of volunteers who didn't give up on him and to those who escorted him home.
And George, please don't scare Mama Vanessa again. Humans don't have nine lives like a cat and I feel sure Vanessa has spent one of hers dealing with your adventure.
