This is an odd cat story. It’s about a guy who has a rescue cat who is three-years-of-age. The cat is an outdoor cat (this took place in the UK). The man, Matt Strong, was walking to get his hair cut when he saw a lady tending to a severely injured cat by the side of the road. He went over and was stunned to discover that the cat was his beloved rescue cat (he thought). He was in shock. He sat with the cat until he died. He genuinely believed that the cat was his beloved Gus.
He buried his Gus in the back garden. He even tweeted the fact that his cat had been killed on the road and that the driver of the car which had hit his cat was a “scumbag” because he did not stop.
“And if you drove a silver Golf along Barlow Moor Road and didn’t bother to stop after hitting him then you really are a scumbag.” (the lady had told him the car was VW Golf).
When he returned home later that day, there was Gus in the kitchen asking for his dinner! He thought he was hallucinating. He said he had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
Mr Strong had buried a neighbour’s cat. He decided to exhume the deceased cat, which he then took to the vet in the hope that the vet would be able to reunite the him with his owner. Perhaps he thought the cat was microchipped.
Mr Strong then had to write another tweet in which he said:
“Well this is awkward, the cat buried in the garden isn’t mine. Looks exactly like him but Gus is alive and well.”
Mr Strong admitted that over the road from his house is a cemetery with long grass where his Gus likes to roam and therefore it was quite possible that his cat had been killed on the road when crossing it to go to the cemetery.
This begs the obvious question as to why he lets his cat roam outside when it is clearly very dangerous because he knows that his cat likes to cross the road.
The story also begs the question as to how he mistook his cat for another cat belonging to what I have presumed to be a neighbour. I would hope that I would never make such a mistake. Perhaps he made the mistake because he was in a distraught state and he knew, as mentioned, that there was a distinct possibility that his cat could be killed on that dastardly road.
One thing is for sure: Mr Strong loves his Gus dearly. Nice.
I can, easily, see how this could happen with moggies.
I have 3 completely black cats and 3 grey striped tabbies that are of the same sizes. I, actually, have to look at their eyes and faces, as well as their walks and behaviors to tell them apart.
If any one of them would be creamed in a road, I would have to guess or decide based on the process of elimination by my living.
Not my call to criticize Mr. Strong for allowing Gus to free roam in an unsafe place.
However, I’ll bet that he has rethought that decision.
“Mr Strong loves his Gus dearly.”
Why on earth would you make such an oxymoronic comment as that? If he is putting his cat in danger of being ran-over by a car that’s not love, that’s animal-neglect and animal-endangerment. It it was his cat that got ran-over, then he should have been fined and convicted of all animal-protection laws to teach immature and irresponsible people how to “love their cats dearly”.
Does a parent who willingly lets their toddler roam free to only drown in some nearby body of water also “love their child dearly”?
Get real for once in your life.
He does love his cat. He is just misguided and perhaps stupid. You can love and be stupid at the same time or don’t you realise that. Arrogant, aren’t you.
