Maxwell

About seven months ago, my daughter was coming home at about 7 am one morning and she called me on her cell to tell me a cat was in the driveway.

We have strays in the area, but they usually take off when they see people but this one didn't leave and I was able to pick him right up.

I immediately new this was no outdoor cat. He was a very pretty and friendly cat. He was clean so I knew that he had belonged to someone.

I brought him upstairs and made all the calls to animal rescue, Forever Paws and animal control and waited for the phone call or someone outside looking for him.

We never heard anything so after 3 days I decided to keep him and boy am I glad I did He is the sweetest cat and I fell in love with him.

Everytime I look at him, I just want to hug him. He has big green eyes that seem to stare right through you. He has all the characteristics of a Maine Coon. He looks like a Maine Coon, he is a big boy. He is long hair and has the lion mane

He doesn't meow much but when he does it's a soft meow. He doesn't like to be held but wants to be in the middle of everything.

He is on the table when anyone is sitting there and always comes to investigate and plops himself right in the middle. He loves to play with cat toys. The vet seems to think he is about a year old as his teeth were still coming in. I've attached a photo.

What do you think?

Cynthia

Hi Cynthia... Maxwell could easily be a Maine Coon. He has an appearance that fits a Maine Coon and his character actually sounds Maine Coonish!

The thing is we won't know for sure without those damn certificates or documented pedigree.

One of the clearest signs that a cat is a Maine Coon, I think, is their length. They are quite slender cats under all that long hair and long in the body. That and ear furnishings (long ear hair) and tufts of hair at the tips of the ears.

I have a feeling that Maxwell is a Maine Coon as you say. It sort of feels right but as I said this is a decent guess no more.

Thanks for sharing Cynthia. Maxwell is a great looking and behaving cat.

When I brought him upstairs, I had to keep him separated as I had another cat upstairs. After about 3 days and not hearing anything, I took him to vet and they checked to see if he had a micro chip. He didn't so he got his shots. I took him home and slowly intergrated him with my other cat. About a month later, I had him neutered. He is the sweetest and smartest cat I have ever had. He loves water, loves to drink it, loves to play with it. I need to keep the toilet seat down or he will be drinking from the toilet. My daughter and I keep saying how lucky we were to find him.

Maxwell does look and sound like a Maine Coon. Believe me, you will never regret the decision to keep him. Did you ever check to see if he had a microchip implanted? Your vet can scan him to verify. It's amazing that no one has laid claim to him so far.
