PoC
Posted on by Michael Broad
Loving cats is part of loving nature, the natural landscape. The wild cat is below the surface of the domestic cat. They are barely domesticated even after 10,000 years. And if you love cats but not other animals at least respect and be kind to them. Everyone should do their little bit to protect the environment and join in with conservation.

Introduction | The reason why I write for these blogs about cats, all of which are subdomains of PoC, is twofold (1) to try and improve the welfare of cats through improved knowledge i.e. it’s about education and (2) for my own benefit, to keep me occupied, to give me purpose. Senior people need purpose. We need targets and goals. We need responsibilities. We need the burden of responsibilities because we are programmed like that. |
Interests | Nature, animal welfare, cats, photography, walking. I really appreciate Google providing all their fantastic free services. Thanks Google. Managing and writing for my main website: https://pictures-of-cats.org/ . I am passionate about animal welfare actually and become angry about abuses. A good thing. I was a professional photographer in the 1970s and still get a buzz from taking photographs. |
Favorite Movies | I tend to like the old movies. I am not a great fan of computer-generated imagery. I like actors to say their words clearly, but they don’t, so I always have the subtitles on notwithstanding that I am only watching films in English. Perhaps one of my favourite films would be Lawrence of Arabia. Another would be the first Alien film. I enjoyed Amazon Prime’s Animal Kingdom. |
Favorite Music | Blues music. I currently like watching Zhavia. In that television programme about winning a chair she sings a wonderful audition; captivating, full of nuance which I love. And I love Hans Zimmer’s theme music for Interstellar which is magical. It hits the spot. The music of the infinite, the separation of humankind in the vastness of the universe. Are other civilisations out there? |
Favorite Books | I am not very good at reading novels. I am good at reading instruction manuals and reference books. Perhaps my favourite book is Wild Cats of the World by Mel and Fiona Sunquist. Such a great book. And Dr Desmond Morris’s book: CATWATCHING is the best book on cat behaviour ever written. A slim volume written many years ago. Morris is an amazing man. For medical info on cats: Cat Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook is superb and the best. I must add Dr Bruce Fogle’s Complete Cat Care, another cracking book that I would highly recommend to any cat caregiver. |
