A Milwaukee cat almost frozen to the ground should be a lesson to us all as to how cats don’t always survive the cold.
Anna the cat was found under a bridge last Friday. She was almost frozen and unresponsive. The temperature had dropped to the single digits in Wisconsin and Anna didn’t have a warm place to stay.
Police called Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission who knew what to do to try to save Anna. Disks were warmed and heated blankets were used to raise her temperature and within a day she was much better.
I won’t show them here but I’ve come across several photos where cats froze as they sat on the ground. Sometimes there was snow in the photos and sometimes not.
We need to remember any outdoor animal is in danger of freezing. Especially so this winter which appears to be hitting harder than usual.
There are plenty of articles online on how to make a shelter for an animal to get a bit of warmth. If at all possible, they should be brought inside.
Anna has a future ahead of her, thanks to those who took the time to rescue one freezing little kitty. Many animals won’t have the fortune to find a Good Samaritan in time.

Especially with the brutal cold currently affecting the east and midwest, and even parts of the south in the US, this story is very timely, Elisa. My heart breaks for every cat strugling in freezing weather, but now with these F minus temperatures the situation is really dire. 😭😢😢
Cats, dogs, and such are not equipped to survive in the wild. Kitties belong inside. An animal is not really a pet if left outside to fend on its own.
