Minnie Miniature Cat

I’ve had the same blood line of cats for as long as I can remember, and currently have three generations of cats under one roof. They have been consistently smaller cats, which undoubtedly is an inherited trait.

However, it wasn’t until last year when ‘daughter’ gave birth to kittens, that we had any seriously small cats.

This newest addition, while about 2/3 the size of her mum and full-grown, is slightly smaller than half the size of a normal cat.

She’s normally proportioned limb-wise, with a slightly rounder head, and bulbous eyes. She’s sweet, and at times very clingy (I have woken up with her sleeping on my face), and not very vocal.

She does however only drink from the kitchen faucet, and will ask persistently if you forget to turn it on for her (strange cat habits…)

Hi Pink. Cats vary a lot in size and three generations isn’t much, but quite likely your line of cats has an inherited trait for the smaller size. Are the fathers small too?
I’d love to see a picture of your Minnie and if you mail one to mjbmeister[at]gmail.com (replace at), I’m sure Michael will put it up here.
As to drinking from the the kitchen faucet, many cats prefer eating and drinking in separate places. In the wild the big cats do just that, so that their water sources are not contaminated by the carcasses they eat, and this behaviour seems to have stayed with the domestic cats. You can read more in the article ‘Wild Cats Eat and Drink in Separate Places’.

Hi, I am 70-years-of-age at 2019. For 14 years before I retired at 57, I worked as a solicitor in general law specialising in family law. Before that I worked in a number of different jobs including professional photography. I have a longstanding girlfriend, Michelle. We like to walk in Richmond Park which is near my home because I love nature and the landscape (as well as cats and all animals).
