This appears to be an example of an inconsistency in the enforcement of the law. It can happen anywhere but in this instance it highlights the injustice of not arresting and not charging the now infamous veterinarian Kristen Lindsey who committed a similar alleged crime to the woman’s alleged crime that I describe below.
It has been reported on September 1, 2015 that police in Jackson, Mississippi, said that they have issued a “bench warrant” for the arrest of a woman, Latika “Shay” Houston, who declared to the world on Facebook that she had seriously burnt and seriously injured a cat because she hates cats and the cat had come onto her property. I don’t know if that warrant has been executed. The police are investigating. We don’t know what happened to the cat.
You can see the similarities with the crime committed by Kristen Lindsey. We all know that she shot a cat on her property with a bow and arrow and killed him. She also declared to the world on Facebook and Twitter that she had proudly done this because she likes to kill animals. She was not arrested and not interviewed by the police.
The Texas grand jury decided that Lindsey had not committed a crime and yet in Jackson, Mississippi a warrant for the arrest of this woman has been issued.
Latika “Shay” Houston could face a charge of misdemeanour animal cruelty. She had posted a graphic image of the burned cat on Facebook with the caption:
“I should take it to the backyard and finish it off. Thinking (devil emojis) stay away from my house!!!”
““Yes I burned the dam cat BIG F—ING DEAL OH WELL!!! Bet they stay away from my house now…”
People began to criticise her actions. She then subsequently wrote another post defending herself in which she said,
“I swear I do not like animals, but the hate I have for CATS!!! (multiple angry emojis) wtbs BUUUUUURN LIL MF!!! BUUUUURNNN!!!
“Lmao!! I set that mf on fire!!! Had to set an example..They stray cats that think my house a litter box but WRONG ANSWER!!”
Many people asked that the matter be investigated. They found out that she was from the Jackson area and that she could face charges.
The local news service apparently knocked on the woman’s front door and her mother answered saying that she didn’t know anything about a cat being set on fire. She said that her daughter didn’t want to talk about it and that refused to come outside. Subsequently, a woman who identified herself as Shay called the newsroom. She said that it was all an elaborate joke. She said that she did not actually burn the cat. She claimed that she had found the picture on the Internet.
“I messed up… It never happened”.
She mentioned that the police had not come to her house to investigate the matter but she wouldn’t mind if they did.
When the newspaper asked her to substantiate her claim that it was all a joke she was unable to produce a link to the original picture which she said she had used. The newspaper was unable to find the image to confirm whether what she had said was true or false.
In all seems very familiar to me. As mentioned, it’s very similar to the Kristen Lindsey story and we all know how that ended up: no arrest, no charge and no conviction. The Lindsey story is still running with possible sanctions due to be issued by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners after they found her in violation of their code of conduct. We will know about those sanctions in October.
Of course we don’t know how the Jackson cat abuse story will pan out but at least the police have planned to arrest the woman and investigate the matter. In the case of Lindsey, from the outset, there was no intention by the police to do anything meaningful.

Susan, I am not sure! The name Lily was added in comments. Perhaps they know that the cat’s name is Lily.
Just another reason why I hate Facebook. She’s proof positive that idiots come in all colors of the rainbow. Reminds me of that kid who burned that pregnant dog alive back in my old neighborhood years ago. The mother and pups were later euthanized and as far as I know nothing was done to him legally. He went on to murder his sister’s boyfriend two years later. Such a fine upstanding citizen.
At least the authorities are considering action against this moron. She might have taken her cue from the Lindsey case, but apparently Houston doesn’t have the money or the family connections to make a cover-up happen. Sucks to be her. I hope her life gets much worse. May she live in interesting times.

Well said Serbella. You have hit the nail on the head. Facebook does encourage bad behaviour or it exposes it. These cat abusers seem to totally miss the point that what they have done is a crime when they advertise it on FB. It shows how disconnected they are with reality and common sense.
