Morbid fascination? See a snake in a video which ate 6 pet cats.

Place: Thailand. A pensioner, Ruang Peung, 65, kept on losing his cats. He believes that he lost all 6 of his cats to the python. They used to frequent the back yard where Peung now believes they were crushed and eaten by the python which retreated to its den under the floorboards of the room where he slept.

One day he saw it slither into the garden and called emergency services. They took an hour to pull it out from under the home as it had wrapped itself around a beam. They bagged it up and released it into the wild.

Peung is relieved but sad at the loss of his cats. The domestic cat is both a predator and prey. Their behavior is governed to an extent by their status in nature. Domestic cats are inherently wary which is the caution of a prey animal but also dynamically active when becoming a predator.

As there is a very similar story of another python living under the home owner’s son’s bed killing their pet cat, I presume that snakes not uncommonly make a home under houses and as there might be a cat in and around the home they are in danger.

A snippet of cat life in Asia. Keeping cats indoors to avoid predators would not have saved these cats in this instance.
