Maria Parry living in Hampshire, UK, had adopted Harry, her sweet cat, seven weeks before he went missing. She saw him up a neighbour’s tree. Her mother’s instinct compelled her to climb the tree to rescue her cat even though she is scared of heights.

She got to him and comforted him. But then decided, when the wind got up, that she was unable to get down. Perhaps this was good fortune because the local firefighters had a good reason to come out and rescue them both.

It is not automatically the case that firefighters come out to rescue cats from trees. But if the owner and the cat are both stuck then there is a compelling reason to do so.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s spokesman said:

“A cat was stuck up a tree and its owner had gone up to rescue it and also became stuck. The pair were rescued using a short ladder.”

Her husband asked if she could come down and when she thought about it she decided that she could not. Ms Parry had become scared. She was stuck up the tree for 45 minutes.

She had borrowed a cat carrier from a neighbour. When her neighbour looked out the window she saw the cat carrier on the ground without Harry in it. She then looked up and saw Ms Parry in the tree with her cat. It appears that Miss Parry had dropped the cat carrier and was waiting to be rescued.

I think that it is a very touching story because by pure instinct Miss Parry went to rescue her cat from a situation which if she had thought about it she wouldn’t have tried. Her love for her cat overcame her fear of heights until she looked down!
