I have a friend with big green eyes,
Who knows when I’m happy or sad,
She’s always there by my side,
And for that I’m so very glad.

When I’m upset she seems to know,
Just how to make me smile,
She is the smartest cat that I’ve ever seen,
And she does it with so much style.

I’m so very grateful for my cat,
And that is sure no lie,
She is the best friend anyone can have,
The one with the big green eyes.

I love your poem Debbie.
I think you are one of us, a true cat lover.
I don’t know why some people say cats have no souls, you only have to look into those beautiful deep eyes to know that they do.

Yes they do. The cat is a tabby random bred as far as I remember. I found the pic on Flickr and thought I would add it to my little attempt at poetry. I hope Debbie doesn’t mind my additional poetry. I just fancied it.

I hope you are OK, Maggie. Studying hard no doubt in preparation for running the state of Tasmania! I expect you to end up doing something like that eventually.

Her eyes are the brightest Irish green
Her face is wild; oh what luxurious fur!
Her eyes are the most beautiful you have ever seen
No, never can I hide my love for her.

Hi, I am 70-years-of-age at 2019. For 14 years before I retired at 57, I worked as a solicitor in general law specialising in family law. Before that I worked in a number of different jobs including professional photography. I have a longstanding girlfriend, Michelle. We like to walk in Richmond Park which is near my home because I love nature and the landscape (as well as cats and all animals).

  • I love your poem, Debbie. I have a daughter, Debbie, who is a poet and an animal rescuer
in CA. We have been cat lovers forever. I was born on St Francis's birthday so always loved the outdoors, including birds, etc. People complain that cats kill birds. Give God credit! He made birds and cats to coexist. Our birds buzz our kitty! She tries to hide and catch them. She doesn't. They just tease her. She is a wild cat who came to our backyard two years ago. We call her Spooky because she appears and disappears. We had to lure her into the house because winter was on us and she would freeze. I had lost my previous house cats and was battling mice coming in for the winter too. She took care of this problem very well. Thank God for cats,!!!
