My Kitten has a cloudy eye and is aggressive

My nine month old kitten (long haired domestic cat) just starting today has become extremely aggressive…trying to bite and scratch and won’t let you hold her or pet her, her hair is starting to fall out a little and her right eye is cloudy. Whats going on???

Thank you for your time. Please email me if you know whats going on:

Hi Corine… thanks for visiting and asking. I am sorry to hear that your cat is ill.

My immediate thought is that your cat is not aggressive, just probably ill. Holding her is probably painful which results in defensive behavior. Or she is in pain and any inference with her is rejected.

Just give her space and don’t try and pet or hold her until this is over.

Cloudy Eye

You mention that she has a cloudy eye. Disorders that cause cloudiness are keratitis, glaucoma and cataracts. It might not be one of these disorders

Keratitis is a painful inflammation of the cornea of the eye (the transparent from part of the eye). It may be caused by the feline herpes virus or an injury. It is a virus that causes viral respiratory diseases. Your cat may have other symptoms that you have not yet recognised. Either way the eye is probably painful and requires immediate veterinary care – sorry.

Glaucoma affects one eye initially. It is abnormally high pressure of aqueous humor in the eye ball. The underlying cause may be one of many diseases such as cancer or it may be due to injury.

Cataracts are an opacity in the lens of the eye. Most cataracts develop from some other eye problem such as injury or inflammation. The underlying cause needs to be assessed by a vet.

I don’t think the hair loss is linked to the cloudy eye but it may be due to the same underlying cause. See hair loss in cats for details.

There is no doubt that the only way forward is to treat your cat with gentle understanding and get her to a vet asap.

Hi Corine, Michael is right, you need an urgent trip to your vets ! Sudden aggression is definately a sign your cat is in pain.
There are many illnesses it could be and only by having your cat seen can she have a diagnosis and treatment.
Think if it was you or one of your family with these problems, you wouldn’t hesitate to see a doctor would you.
Eyes especially are very precious, don’t risk her losing her sight in the cloudy one.
