Cats would gather under the porches of vacant houses for 62-year-old Garnet Louise Jones to feed them. They are now without her support because she was struck by a hit and run driver whose car dragged her body to a southeast Columbus recreation center.

Police where called there after 12:20 am on Sunday March 31st. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was hit by a silver vehicle on ‘East Whittier Street and Fairwood Avenue and dragged to Driving Park Recreation Center before the driver fled’ (myfox28columbus.com).

The car will have damage. Christa Ivery lives across the street and she said she saw the body. She was there for hours.

I don’t have more information and have cobbled together this from 2 websites one of which (The Columbus Dispatch) is inaccessible to me in Europe. This is a constant problem for me since the EU issued fresh regulations concerning privacy.

It begs the question as to whether Jones was feeding stray cats when she was hit. I don’t have that information but it is quite possible. The cats will miss her. May she rest in peace.

I will update the page when I have more (written in haste).

Update: Reported: Lequan A. Hedrick, 44, was driving a Cadillac CTS when he apparently hit 62-year-old Garnet Louise Jones as she was walking near her home on the South Side, police said.

Further update from Go Fund Me fundraiser. These are quotes from the page:

“On March 31st at 12:26 am my mother Garnet Jones was hit by a car and dragged four blocks from Fairwood ave. and Whitter st. to Rhodes ave…. If you have any information regarding the incident, please contact, Sargent Wilson at 614-645-4532 or you can contact Detective McWhorter at 614-645-0167 also Channel 6 News can be contacted as well.”

“My mother was an animal lover she would feed all the little stray cats and dogs. But she loved God more than anything. Leaving behind ten cats and two dogs.”
