I know it's a dog! There are no images of people looking like their cats.
Are there such people as owners who look like their cats? I ask because we all know about the dog owners who look like their dogs. They are a little bit famous.
It is not always apparent and not always the case but we do get dog owners who look like their dog.
I don't think we get owners who look like their cats. Or if we do it is a very small percentage of cat caretakers; much less than is the case with dogs. If I am correct; why is this?
I am going to speculate - a pure guess.
Dogs have been domesticated much longer than cats. As I recall the dog first became domesticated about 12,000 years ago compared to the cats 5,000 to perhaps 9,000 years ago.
That means there is been a grater time during which breeding of dogs has taken place.
And breeding leads to the creation of new breeds and a gradual differentiation in appearance between the breeds. Breeders like to clearly distinguish one breed from the other for common sense reasons.
This long term selective breeding program by dog breeders over a very long time - longer than is the case for cat breeds - has resulted in a huge range of dog types and appearance. There are about 493 dog breeds. There are about 70 mainstream cat breeds.
The appearance of the various dog breeds is very distinct, which allows owners to choose a dog that looks like themselves. This may, and probably does, happen inadvertently but the choice is there to do it.
The domestic cat in contrast does look different, breed to breed, but thankfully in general (except for the extreme cat breeds) they all look pretty similar except for the hairless cats. The fact that they do look fairly similar is not necessarily something that pleases the breeders but it is a fact.
That is one reason why owners don't look like their cats.
I believe that there is another reason. Dog owners are pack animals like their dogs. They want to be part of a team and when an owner looks like his dog he is wearing the team colours!
Cat caretakers by contrast are more independent minded. They are more likely to be individuals and therefore less inclined to look like their cat companion. To use a sporting context cat owners are tennis players and dog owners are footballers (soccer).
What do you think? Are there owners that look like their cat?
People search for signs that their cat is dying of old age. I have just read about a 31-year-old Maine…
