Persian cat eating a water melon is a fake
by Michael
Why is this Persian cat addicted to water melon? This is very strange. Cats are “obligate carnivores”. That means eating meat. In an ideal world for the cat this means prey such as a mouse, a very recently killed mouse!
I would say that the person who made the video set the whole thing up. Although I have no proof and am open to alternative suggestions. The video has over 5 million views. This is very rare and exceptional. There is motivation in creating a video that is portrayed as being real but which is set up.
Think about it. You want to make a video that gets hits. You select a food that is diametrically opposite to cat food. Water melon sounds good.
You cut it up and add something with a syringe that the cat loves. He eats it in front of the camera – success.
Maybe I am being cynical. Probably am. If I am incorrect, an alternative scenario is that the Persian cat likes it because it (a) is sweet and (b) is liquid and he is thirsty.
Cats can’t taste sweetness we are told but a cat on dry food might become mildly hypoglycemic and crave something wet and sweet.
Either way, it is unnatural, I believe. But it makes for an interesting video nonetheless.
