It may surprise people that in domestic cats, for a long time, there has been a disease called feline coronavirus (FCoV) which is not the same as Covid-19.
Feline coronavirus is not zoonotic whereas Covid-19 is; therefore the same disease affects people and animals but in respect of feline coronavirus it only affects felines.
The names are similar but FCoV is only 63% similar in terms of its genome to Covid-19 and that only takes affecting in one quarter of the genome.
