I do not have a photograph of the man concerned, nor of the dog whose name is Riggs. The man is Mr May. He was rescuing a cat belonging to his 73-year-old neighbour who is a woman. The cat had wandered into a building site nearby and had, apparently, climbed the scaffolding. Mr May was doing a good turn. He climbed up the scaffolding to retrieve the cat. Somebody had reported him to the police and they arrived. The deputy sheriff Mr Laughlin came with his attack dog. He set the dog upon Mr May. The policeman said that he had warned Mr May but Mr May said he did not hear any warning. The dog bit Mr May and he was charged with resisting arrest and trespass. Mr May was not resisting arrest and trespass is not a criminal matter but a civil matter.
Mr May was taken to the police station where he was charged. He was then taken to the hospital. The police put a tag on him said “I met Riggs”. This was mocking Mr May. The police photographed him with this tag on him. It’s a bad situation. Mr May is suing the police and I presume the local authority for compensation and punitive damages for false arrest and negligence and of course an assault.
