Police worked tirelessly to find black cat with kidney disease stolen from PetSmart

A black cat, appropriately named Batman, was stolen from PetSmart, Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, USA. Batman had been placed in the store by Forgotten Cats, a cat rescue non-profit working in partnership with PetSmart. Batman has ‘early chronic kidney disease’ as reported by NBC News.

Forgotten Cats become very concerned because of Batman’s health and the extra care that he required. If he became dehydrated it could have been serious for him. On their Facebook pageA, they offered a $2,100 reward for info leading to his return. They said that if the thieves returned him they would not press charges.

They also said that security video cameras had allegedly recorded a man and a woman, apparently in their 20s, leaving the store with Batman.

It was known too that they had left the store in a green Mini Cooper. This combined evidence assisted the police in finding the suspects according to NBC Philadelphia.

Batman was recovered and returned to the store. Forgotten Cats said that the police had ‘worked tirelessly’ to find him. Brookhaven Police confirmed that the suspects are facing charges. We don’t have names at this stage.

A. The Forgotten Cats Facebook page which reported the story appears not to be currently available for some mysterious reason which is why I can’t link to it. They have a skeleton Facebook presence with nothing on it. Strange.

Comment: It is interesting that they stole a black cat. This would be unexpected because as you no doubt know black cats are usually less likely to be adopted from shelters. It is very strange to me that they stole a rescue cat. One purpose of cat rescue is to help fund cat shelters so they can continue to save lives. To want a cat but at the same time to undermine cat rescue is contradictory behavior. And they are not broke if they drove a Mini Cooper, a European manufactured car imported into America.
