Prophet Muhammad Was Not A Cat Lover

Across the internet you’ll read about the Muslim Faith. One well-recited aspect of it is that the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam and its central figure, loved cats. It is documented in a Hadith (a verbatim report of the sayings of the Prophet).

I have written about Muhammad’s love of cats myself:

“Mohammed’s favorite cat was called Muezza. There is a well known story regarding the Prophet Mohammed and Muezza. When call to prayers was announced Muezza was asleep on one of the sleeves of the Prophet’s robes. The Prophet wanted to wear the robe to go to prayers. Rather than disturb Muezza Mohammed cut off the sleeve to leave Muezza in peace…..read more here

Now a self-professed Islam scholar and comment author on this website, Al-Hajji Frederick H Minshall, has declared it is all a lie. Al-Hajji Frederick H Minshall is an American man living in Alaska, USA. He took up the Muslim faith. This is what he writes in a comment:

“The ahadith cat-fanatics have recently become fond of quoting were narrated by Abu Hurayrah. He spent a whole two years in the Holy Prophet’s company, and was dismissed as a liar by his contemporaries, such as Abdullah ibn Umar, for FABRICATING ahadith. My Sunni brethren don’t like to hear this, but their own scholars acknowledge it, when confronted with the ahadith which document this.

The Most Noble Messenger Muhammad (Saala Allahu alayhi wa Ah’liihi wa Salaam) was the Prophet of Mercy. He was kind to everything, animals included. But the actions attributed to him that supposedly denote a ‘special fondness for cats’ were in fact Abu Hurayrah’s OWN actions which he falsely attributed to the Holy Prophet (SAAWAWS).

Perhaps this will tell you why: the ‘kunyat’ (nickname) of Abu Hurayrah was given him because of his fondness for cats. He tried to make his actions seem more important and ‘admirable’ by falsely attributing them to the Messenger of Allah (SAAWAWS). In short, Abu Hurayrah was just like any modern-day cat-hoarder or ‘no-kill’ fanatic. He lied.”

In summary, he is saying that the author of this Hadith is lying about the Prophet Muhammad and simply writing about his personal attitude towards cats. Al-Hajji describes him – Abu Hurayrah – as a “no kill fanatic” and a “cat hoarder”. He wishes to insult this person and in doing so we can see the hatred of Al-Hajji for treating cats humanely and decently as he supports killing cats (he supports the notorious cat hater and troll Woodsman001). Al-Hajji says he seeks the truth and pursues honesty which is why he joined the Muslim faith and yet here he declares the writings underpinning the faith are sometimes lies. Hardly an honest religion.

95-98% of Pakistanis in Pakistan are Muslims. They tend to treat feral cats appallingly and disregard the simple fact that feral and stray cats were ultimately created by people through their carelessness towards cat caretaking. As humans are responsible for the creation of feral cats it is beholden upon humans to treat them decently and if we wish to reduce their numbers it must be done humanely. Most Muslims don’t understand this and that includes the self-professed scholar: Al-Hajji.

I wonder how reliable the Hadiths are? Makes you think. All religions are incredibly fragile when it comes to veracity. They are built on faith and belief. And for some Muslims faith and believe has to be beaten into people through fear. This sort of thing happened amongst Christians hundreds of years ago and still does in some parts of the world.

Associated: The Ancient Egyptians abused cats! Yep it is all fiction.

Note: Al-Hajji is allowed one comment; maximum of 20 lines as he is terribly verbose.

    • I am not saying that it is a fact that the Prophet was not a cat lover. I just questioning it. And the story that he was a cat lover is probably exaggerated or has benn greatly embellished over the years. It is good to question so called facts. This website is not stupid. Far from it. It is the opposite.

  2. I have a question though. Why are you choosing to believe one person over an entire consensus of people? You do realize that this man likely has a hidden agenda, right? You call Islam dishonest when in the past articles about the religion you didn’t do enough research to the point where you got things wrong (I.E, dogs not being liked in the Quran), etc. No matter how tiny the media you control is, you have a responsibility to be honest especially regarding these subjects. Maybe first state the truth and then your opinion? In a previous comment of yours you also referred to something about Islam and Terrorism, as if they were vaguely related. All of what I just mentioned makes me think either 2 things :
You either choose to accept one opinion with little evidence very quickly —
    OR
You just have an irrational fear of Islam and Muslims that you justify with quick unverified research.

  3. If you cannot help yourself but spread lies to defame people and other religions I would politely advise you to pick a hobby.

Ps. Religion and people are two seperate things. Religion is an advise to people. Some take it, some don’t, some think they took it.

  4. Abu Huraira – the HONORABLE and RESPECTABLE companion of the Prophet pbuh – never ever said anything about the Prophet relating to this issue, nor the other RESPECTABLE companions of the prophet pbuh. saying such words about the Prophet’s pbuh companions is profoundly UNACCEPTABLE.

  5. Actually, nothing of the above is true! Abu Huriara – the RESPECTABLE and HONORABLE Prophet’s companion – NEVER said anything about the Prophet pbuh related to this , nor any of the other HONORABLE Prophet pbuh companions ! And saying such thing about the companions is terribly heinous! Never believe this ‘ Hajji ‘ ! He could never be an Islamic Scholar !
