Psychiatric evaluation for feral cat shooter and four year suspended prison sentence

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA: This is a criminal case which once again counteracts the pleadings of feral cat shooters who are convinced that you can shoot feral cats at will in the USA. You can’t. This young man, Kyre West, has been reported on before. He did a drive by shooting of a feral cat named Blackie on October 4th at 04:30. It appears that he was driving around with the intention of finding and shooting cats. His behaviour was caught on CCTV.

Kyre West
Blackie belonged to a feral cat colony, it is believed. Other cats may have been shot perhaps by the same man. There was blood splatter in several places in the same area where Blackie was shot.
When faced with overwhelming evidence, Kyre pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals.
In addition to the suspended prison sentence, Kyre will pay a fine of $5,000 (I hope he has the money) and $276 in restitution to Zeus’ Place (I believe this is a restaurant in front of which Blackie was shot). He’ll perform 400 hours of community service plus undergo that psychiatric evaluation. He’ll need that because he appears to have ‘mental health issues’ (don’t all cat shooters?).
The underlying moral of the tale is that you can’t go around taking pot shots at cats just because they are feral and on the streets. They are protected under animal welfare laws. There are exceptions to that protection but these are rare. Let it be a warning to feral cat shooters.
