An online petition shows a picture of a cute lion cub in a small cage left abandoned in field and the headline is “Abandoned Lion Cub Found in a Cage – Find His Captors!”.
The goal is 35,000 supporters of the petition and at the time of writing this article 30,576 have signed it. They are petitioning the authorities in the Netherlands. They say that somebody has traumatised the cub by abandoning the little fella in a field. The poor thing had cut his nose trying to force his way out of the cage.
Fortunately, a passing jogger spotted the cub. It is speculated that the cub was smuggled into the Netherlands from another country by an illegal breeder or perhaps a circus. An animal sanctuary was contacted where the cub is being cared for.
The authorities need to find the perpetrator of this crime (it appears to be a crime) hence the petition. It may be a gang of animal traffickers. The worldwide trade in live and dead wildlife is simply enormous and valued at billions of pounds annually.
This cub was about five months of age when abandoned.
