There are two developments to report following the horrific and well publicized torture and killing of Sage, a cat living in Clearfield, Utah, USA. I speculated that the criminal is local to Sage’s owners and possibly known to them.
We, the interested public, would love to hear to some real detail and updates about this case. We have some snippets.
2KUTV.com report that another cat living very close to the home where Sage lived was abused on Mar. 29th. The Humane Society of Utah has offered a $3,000 reward for information (donations for Sage have reached almost $62k). The latest cat to be abused (an orange tabby) is a year old and now under the care of a local veterinarian. He’ll survive we are told.
The unknown is whether this is a linked crime. My gut feeling is that it is not. But it certainly may lead to further evidence in trying to solve the Sage cruelty case. It may simply be that Sage has heightened awareness of cat cruelty and encouraged people to report it to the press.
The video below from KUTV tells us at the end that Davis County Animal Care and Control (in conjunction with Clearfield police) have some interesting leads in their investigation of Sage’s killing. That sounds encouraging. However, I’d like to know more.
I would also hope that they are making enquiries in the near neighborhood where Sage lived. I am personally convinced that Sage’s owners know the criminal.
Animal Control believe that the exposure that Sage received may have compromised the ongoing investigation. They do not wish to disclose too much information about the latest cat abuse for that reason.
