Serial cat killer in Thurston County, Washington leaves reward flier on cat found dead on Sunday

A disturbing case of a cat serial killer has made the news this week after a dead cat was found in Lacey, Washington with part of a reward flier attached to the cat. It’s been nearly a year since 13 cats were found dead in the Thurston County community.

The 2018 killings remain unsolved, despite a $53,000 reward to help find the killer. The latest case was discovered when Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded  Sunday to the intersection of Rockcress and Milbanke Drive where part of a deceased cat was found near the storm water pond along a fence.

A body was found last week but it’s believed that cat was hit by a vehicle. Since the cat found Sunday had the reward flier attached the killer is a human rather than a wild animal.

Angi Swan, whose cat Callie was one of the cats killed in 2018 stated in an interview with King5 News

“It’s heartbreaking to know that this is happened to other families and cats. At the end of last summer, we thought it had died down and put to rest. I’m hoping that there are some new leads and more awareness now.”

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is warning people to keep a close eye on their pets and to notify them at Crime Stoppers is 1-800-222-TIPS. They’re investigating whether this is the same serial cat killer or whether a copycat killer has emerged.

Regardless, it’s a good idea to keep cats inside to protect them not only from a serial cat killer but from all dangers to an outdoor cat.

Additional information on previous cats believed killed in Thurston County can be found here and here.

The first thing I thought of when I saw Washington has a serial cat killer is the case of Sage, a cat killed in Utah where the killer remains at large.
