Some Feral Cats Disappear

Some Feral Cats Disappear

OH yes I have feral cats – it isn’t just cities, I live in the country. I have tried to catch / befriend as many as I can and get them spayed or neutered as needed. It isn’t easy NOR CHEAP!
Some feral cats disappear. There was a man trapping for something by the creek…I don’t know who he is he does his work by night- sometimes I believe they get stuck in it.

Some I don’t think I will ever get. There was one I called Dixie I have been trying to get her for 3 years – Last week I witnessed a dog kill her… something I won’t soon get over.

There are farmers and people who shoot them – and it isn’t fair or right- it isn’t their fault no one wants them or cares.

I have 12 cats now – all but one were rescues and drop offs and ferals (3 recently passed away. One was 20 years old!)

Cybil was feral as feral can be – now she is happy fat who loves love. They can be saved – they do want to trust – but we need to take the first step.

Thank You..Brenda

Sep 30, 2009 Killing of Any Animal is Just Insane
by: Lisa D

For the life of me, I will never understand why anyone would try to hurt any animal. I panic if one of our feral or tame cats are missing for just a half a day. I comb our property to make sure they are all accounted for if one is missing. We have lost a few, either they just disappear or we find them dead. I found a stray on the pavement in front of our property, who had already been hit by a vehicle and it was too late, I was heartbroken even if he wasn’t mine. My husband took him down and gave him a proper burial on cat hill, (our own pet cemetary). He will not be forgotten, as well as the others won’t be either. Circle of life, I suppose, but, still so sad. People who have never had the joy of feline affection, have no clue what they are missing. My heart goes out to our fallen friends.

I wish you the best of luck with the great job you have undertaken. I was very happy to read that you have succesfully taken in ferals. I’m sure it must be quite a challenge, but the more rewarding. You can’t solve everything, so count your wins…

I just don’t understand the enjoyment of killing semi-tame animals for fun or as a sport.

What kind of sport is shooting feral cats that although not tame have no choice but staying close to humans in order to survive? Just as standing at a pond firing shotguns at ducks that have been bred for the purpose and are still too confused to save themselves as they’re being released for the first (and last) time.

Last week I saw two toddlers about 3 y.o. chasing pidgeons around at a square – trying to kick and tramble the poor birds. The kids were of course to young to know, but what really offended me was seeing the parents standing watching without interfering at all.

If toddlers aren’t taught simple things like being good to animals, they won’t see the wrong in shooting cats with their airguns when they’re 10. And if they don’t acquire a reasonable level of compassion and empathy during childhood, I’m afraid they might be the psychos of tomorrow.

Sorry about the detour, but I just had to get this off my chest. 😉

Aug 24, 2009 Tough life for feral cat
by: Anonymous

It is a tough life for feral cats and there seem to be a lot of people out to kill them, sometimes for no reason other than enjoyment. It is bizarre to me: the disappearance or killing of feral cats. It is cruel and wrong as we created the feral cat problem (if you consider it a problem).
