This is an amusing story from Reddit.com in which a person honestly admits his or her mistake in eating cat food rather than human food and liking it!
The person remains anonymous on Reddit.com, perhaps wisely! It happened several years ago when he (I will refer to the person as “he” for the sake of simplicity) first moved to Japan and his language skills were very poor. He used Google translate to get around and manage, particularly when shopping.
He said that he was looking for a quick snack and saw a bag of rice crackers like the one you see on this page. The package contained a picture of cheese and fish and he, fairly enough, thought it was a healthy cheese snack for people. There was no reference to a cat on the packaging. He bought it and loved the taste. He went back for some more a few days later.
He ate one or two packs of the cheese crackers a week until a friend asked whether he had a cat. He said that he didn’t and then she explained that his favourite snack was meant for cats. He was surprised because they were very delicious. She laughed (to be expected) and agreed that they did taste good but it would be wise to stop in case he got sick. He didn’t stop eating them right away (!) but found an alternative, this time, for humans. He ate the snacks for two months. He is greatly up voted on Reddit.com because like me they agree it is a good story.
Comment: I find the story unsurprising because some cat food is more expensive and better looking and perhaps even better tasting than human food. The uncomfortable aspect of cat food is that it can be more expensive than human food. I find that difficult to accept but in the interests of my cat’s health and welfare I give him the best and bite the bullet over the costs.
