This is one of those “stray cat makes a baseball ground their home” stories. We see them a little more often that we like because stray cats like to make these stadia their homes. I guess they are warm and maybe they get some food from the spectators or the staff. There is clearly some advantage to being there. The stadium staff don’t really like it because they have an “incident” on their hands! They don’t want the match to be interrupted with a cat dangling from the rafters as occurred the other day from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida (see link above). That caused a lot of fuss and a video that went viral. The news media were all over that story. It does generate a bit of publicity for the stadium, it has to be said, but I’m not sure it is good publicity. It seems that three stadium employees working together captured this little stray cat who was perfectly happy where she was on a girder up on the gods. I think the boss was pleased to have her down. He didn’t want any distractions during the match. It happened just before the game started.

Note: This is an embedded tweet. Sometimes they are deleted at source which stops them working on this site. If that has happened, I apologise but I have no control over it.

If the stray cat is not in the stadium itself, they are on the field of play during the match where they entertain the crowd. I always feel bad for the cat because they panic when the players try and remove them. On the occasions that I have seen this the sports stars have always be gentle with the cat which is good to see. I am sure there are some cat lovers among those burly baseball players even if they wouldn’t admit it.
