Student murdered a well-known cat so he could feel better he said

They say that gross animal cruelty is a precursor to violence against people. I think it applies very strongly in this instance. A 24-year-old student from Macau living in Taipei, Taiwan brutally killed a tabby cat belonging to a vegetarian restaurant owner because he said that he was in a bad mood. He wanted to feel better and killing a cat would achieve this. If that isn’t a precursor to further violence I don’t know what is. In fact the student, Chan Ho-Yeung admits that he has a psychological problem:

“I have a psychological problem and I could not control the compulsion to kill a cat.” These are Chan’s words to the judge when he was hauled before the courts on a charge of animal cruelty under Taiwan’s Animal Protection Act.

Chan faces a year behind bars for the violent murder of this cat who was a well-known to residents around the university. He also faces a £25,000 fine.

Residents heard about the charge and attended outside the court where the angry crowd animal of rights activists and protesters attacked him as you can see from the photographs.

Chan said that he stole the cat from the restaurant and then beat him to death. He then dumped the cat’s carcass in a nearby river.

It transpired that he felt in a bad mood because he was upset at being charged earlier in 2016 for the killing of another cat whose name was Big Orange – a ginger tabby and white (see photo). Big Orange was killed by Chan last December and was also a very well-known cat to local residents.

When he saw Big Orange passing by he couldn’t restrain himself from killing him. It has been suggested by other residents that Chan is a serial cat killer having killed four cats at least in total.

Residents are urging politicians to tighten up the animal cruelty laws. They want a five-year jail sentence for extreme animal cruelty. Correctly, animal-rights activists believe that Chan may harm more animals when he is released from prison. Chan has begged for forgiveness so he is showing remorse but judging by his previous behaviour I am certain that he cannot be trusted and never will be.

  2. I agree that he fits the description of a serial cat killer. I so wish that the crowd would have beaten him to death as he has done to cats.
I don’t think that I would have to be in a “bad mood” or “wanting to feel better” in order to witness the same demise for him. I hope that someone brings it on.
Some people just need to be taken out of this world for the health of the planet.

    • Agreed. I think it’s a description of a serial killer, not just a serial cat killer. Today he had a compulsion to kill a cat, tomorrow he’ll have a compulsion to kill a woman or a baby.

If someone is getting pleasure from killing, he’ll probably picked a cat because the cat was small and defenseless and he’d thought he can get away with it. Tomorrow, he’ll see a child while he is in a bad mood and will kill a child. Actually, who is to say he hasn’t done it already?

  3. During a certain period or in a region of ancient Egypt, it was punishable by death to kill or harm a cat, even by accident. To purposely do what this human garbage did, numerous times is not forgivable at all and the same punishment should be on the books and carried out worldwide. I think it’s more imperative in these times as the world population is over the brink in size and affect on animal populations… let alone the moral wrong that it is in the first place. To get away with it now gives the impression that societies don’t care, or that it’s okay. To “feel better” about one’s self by murdering any animal at any time anywhere is so “anti-life and anti-world”, there should be no question about disposing of this type of human with extreme prejudice. I support the angry mob, and they would support this idea I’m sure.

    • I totally agree with you, Albert. The world is so dissappointing in not taking a tougher stance against animal cruelty of this nature.

    • Sharon, if you are in the U.S., and as an activist, it is your obligation to fight for animals. That means that you attend city/county meetings, sit on the Board of an animal charity rescue group, carry protest signs when necessary.
Thank you for all that you do. I applaud.

  6. Sounds like the court needs to lock him in an unmonitored room with his victims’ families. That might bring about justice and convince him to stop killing.

    • What a nice thought. It’s also nice to see that people have strong feelings in Taiwan against animal cruelty. I like that. Asia is a part of the world were there needs to be a strengthening of animal welfare laws and it seems to me that Taiwan is moving in the right direction.
