How can people learn to respect the domestic cat when stupid teachers set up this sort of macabre form of entertainment for the camera? This is disgraceful and somebody at the school should get a formal warning for arranging this disturbing performance. This sort of behaviour devalues the cat and indirectly promotes abuse and negligence towards the living domestic cat.
The school is in Oklahoma (Oklahoma City’s Harding Charter Preparatory). The video went viral. The school “expressed concern and disappointment” reports Yahoo News.
A school spokesperson said:
“These students made a mistake and they will most likely make other mistakes in their lives,”
No, it is the teacher and the head teacher who are primarily to blame. What have you done about it?
The cats, as we immediately realise, are there for dissection. That in itself is questionable at the least because amongst the carcasses there is quite possibly someone’s former pet! You know how wandering strays get scooped up and euthanised at shelters. Well, this is where some end up – a prop in a macabre funny cat video (not so funny). Do shelters sell cat carcasses to schools? If so this would be a conflict of interest and it should be stopped.
The video was made in the autumn of 2013. It appears to have come to light late in the day because PETA picked it up and put it on social media and YouTube. PETA said:
“The video of the choreographed display was posted on social media, and the students’ teacher was even tagged in the post.
Students learn faster and better by using non-animal methods such as interactive software programs, and with these modern tools, they don’t learn to treat or think of animals as equipment to be used and discarded.”
The teacher is one of those people who clearly has no sensitivity or respect towards animals. Shame on you.
It is beholden upon parents and teachers to inculcate decency towards animals. This is disrespectful.
