Bruno ex street cat, in a bad way
I am a volunteer at Sunny Harbour Cat and Kitten Rescue, one of the UK rescues on your map. Unlike other rescues they don't always take the easy cases, and have some cats, mainly ex street cats or abandoned for quite some time.
Sarah and Paul who run the rescue, are now a registered charity, fund everything themselves with donations and have a small band of volunteers to help with chores and socialising.
The photo above is of a cat called Bruno. He broke my heart when I saw him at Sunny Harbour and he has his own appeal page on the Sunny Harbour website.
Death row kitties and streets cats like Bruno don't get the same exposure in the UK as they do in the US, but they do exist. Had bruno been collected by a larger welfare organsiation such as the SSPCA (like animal control) he would have been put to sleep..he's a long way from being fully recovered..but is already bouncing around with the joys of life having just about got his mojo back!
Sunny Harbour is one 4 charities in a Face Book poll run by animal insurer Animal Friends. The winner gets £5000. There are details on the Sunny harbour website home page at http://www.sunnyharbour.org.uk and on their facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/sunnyharbourcatrescue.
The poll itself is on this page. Just a few clicks can win £5000. How cool is that? I can't think of anyone more deserving! Please sprread the word if you can..
