This is an interesting picture from Reddit.com which reminds me of those end of world films in which nature and wildlife reclaim the planet as humans have destroyed themselves. I am being melodramatic but the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in lockdowns. This means almost no one on the streets, sidewalks and open spaces in …
Having read the entirety of the section on the feeding ecology of pumas (mountain lions) in the best book on the wild cats, Wild Cats Of The World, I have failed to find any reference to pumas eating snakes. Google can’t help me either. I can’t find a single image of a puma with …
The report in The Times newspaper is clear. A mother mountain lion and her two offspring were not suspected of killing the person that they were eating but nonetheless all three were shot dead because Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) decided that they posed a risk to people as they showed no fear …
Mountain lions are not normally independent until they are at least a year old. After a kill the mountain lion may begin to eat immediately or may spend time preparing the carcass. The mountain lion may return to finish off his meal in which case he will cover the remains with snow, grass, sand or leaves or whatever is available. We are told that the mountain has a …
A mountain lion wandered into a home in Boulder, Colorado, sat down and looked like he was watching television. He licked his lips. He had just eaten the family cat, Klondike. There is no evolved agreement between all cats that one should not eat another. Leopards are sometimes preyed upon by lions for instance. …
Do pumas eat penguins? Although I can’t find any hard scientific evidence that penguins are a prey item to the puma, it seems that their distributions overlap (just) in Peru and Chile and if so pumas might eat penguins. It depends if the puma range extends to the sea shore. I doubt that it does because pumas like tree cover.
