Tame and Socialized Serval Cat

by Michael
(London, UK)

Here are two pictures taken by Kathrin Stucki of me and Helmi Flick with a Serval cat. The pictures were taken while the Flicks and I visited A1 Savannahs. This tame male Serval cat was superbly well socialized. As you probably know Martin and Kathrin Stucki breed Savannah cats at their cattery, A1 Savannahs. They are based near Ponca City in Oklahoma, USA and their cattery is probably the best know worldwide.

Martin and Kathrin Stucki do a wonderful job of socializing their Savannah cats. It is at the core of their business. After all there is little point in breeding wonderful looking, exotic and rare cats if the they are difficult to live with. The Savannah cats that live with the Stuckis in their house are a fine example of highly socialized wildcat hybrids.

This tame and socialized Serval cat (I apologize for forgetting his name – I will update this post when I have it) was simply like a much smaller domestic cat in terms of his interaction with us. Although, of course, he was more active and stronger. He was a delight to be around. He loved to play and to be involved with us.

We had a great time visiting A1 Savannahs. I’ll be making a video or two based on the visit. A1 Savannahs receive many international guests from around the world and as a result they have built a guest house to accommodate visitors. Here’s a picture of Martin bottle feeding an A1 Extreme Savannah cat. This is part of the vital socialization process and there is no shortcut.

  1. What beautiful cats! I wish I could have one, but I am busy saving the ones that are toss aways… so many out there it’s sad. Maybe one day though! 🙂
