You’ll have to take this as you find it. It’s an Amazon comment. We know that Amazon comments are not always truthful. This product, which has a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Amazon.com is extremely popular because the reviewers say that their cats like it a lot. It seems to be almost addictive.

However, one reviewer said the following:
“I don’t know how strong the catnip component of this treaty is, but it made my cat into a raving lunatic. He loves good catnip, but he went insane when “on” this treat. I had to trash the lion’s share because I was afraid he would hurt himself if he ate any more of this. Think twice before you buy this for your friend.”
It is interesting that the manufacturer responded to this comment on Amazon. They enquired:
“Charles, we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write a review for our treats. We would like the opportunity to speak with you so we can learn more, so please call us at 1-800-525-5273, Monday-Friday between 8 AM and 4:30 PM CST. Thank you.”
The product does contain catnip (Nepeta cataria – a herb). Is it safe for a cat to eat catnip? Cats normally sniff it and get high that way. It is the chemical nepetalactone which affects the cat’s brain. Sometimes cats will bite catnip to release more of the active chemical. There is nothing that indicates that catnip can harm a cat when eaten. I think you’ll see cats eating catnip leaves in gardens on the internet.
As I understand it cats react differently to catnip. Some cats hardly react at all. This probably accounts or this cats “overreaction”. One poorly written website’s article headline is:
TEMPTATIONS MIXUPS CAT TREATS COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR OUR CATS?
This caught my eye, hence this article. But this would seem to be pure hype.
6 of my kitties love it, roll in it, eat it, except Baby he just don’t get what all the excitement’s about. He smells it & looks at the others, like, what’s so great about that, lol!
Michael,
I agree with the above comments. Having 12 adopted/rescued kitties, yes, there are varying reactions. However, all but 1 or 2 of mine are all *nip addicts*. I let them have *nip baths* about once a month. I put fresh nip on the floor and let them roll in it or eat it as they please. No, nip is not bad for them to eat. It is a green, and they need their greens just as us humans do. Since mine don’t go outside at all, I give them the nip so that they can have fresh greens occasionally. (I keep it in the fridge to keep it fresh.) I do also purchase the catnip treats which they all love, but none of mine tend to *go nuts* at any time with nip. They usually *get high* then go crash someplace in the house. It’s rather funny. . . ♥♥♥
I totally agree with you Franny. My cats have varied tremendously in their response to catnip. Sometimes there is almost no reaction. Nice to hear from you. Hope you and yours are well.
Michael, you are absolutely right that various cats have different reactions to catnip. My Jennifur loves her heart-shaped catnip toy, and chews on it, cuddles it, and rolls on it regularly. I have had cats in the past who made themselves look like crazed beasts with fresh catnip plants, and even the dried versions.
All my cats are addicts to Temptations Mixups. However, they much prefer the milk flavored variety to any of the others, including catnip. Much like many other topics involving cats, we poor, inadequate humans will never be able to place an accurate label on ALL cats’ relationship with Nepeta cataria.
