Thanks to a microchip, a blue-eyed Himalayan cat missing since 2015 has been reunited with his owner in Anchorage, Alaska.

Facebook: Lynsey Ryan

Winter went missing three and a half years ago when he disappeared from his new adoptive home on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. That was in August 2015. He’d only been in his new home with Lynsey Ryan for a year after being rescued in 2014 from a cold home in Houston.

The good news came when a woman who had been feeding a stray cat for months saw Winter’s photo on missing pet pages on Facebook and thought they might be a match.

Lynsey works with a Mat-Su cat rescue group and carries a microchip scanned she uses through her work. She met the woman caring for Winter in an Anchorage parking lot.

It was quickly determined Lynsey had found her missing kitty when the microchip numbers were run through the database. Lynsey and her sister Rosalyn were out on a drive when the message came through on her phone saying the cat was indeed her Winter.

Lynsey commented on her Facebook page

“We are very grateful to be someone’s hope and to educate the world about the importance of microchipping!!”

Microchipping a pet is important. Pets slip out the door, are faced with natural disasters and even released during a crime taking place inside the home. Almost every cat reunion story I’ve ever written involves the cat being microchipped.
